A must read for me!

This was a must read for me because it was set in my hometown, Cleveland Ohio! I smiled every time the author made reference to a neighborhood, landmark, street, or highway...what a stroll down memory lane for a homesick soul!

When I began reading, my first impression was that this wasn't my kind of story, the characters were too young, inexperienced,and naive. The banter quickly got on my nerves, I heard myself say “Silly spoiled children,with no real problems, they make-up dilemmas to fill their days”, but I pushed on. I found the names difficult, their diets unbelievable, their rituals restrictive.”Nobody really lives like this...do they?”

In the beginning I questioned everything, until I took a moment, and thought about my personal experiences in my hometown and my friends that I use to know as a young single woman. It has been more years than I care to count, but I did have Muslim, Jewish, Gentile,vegetarian, psychic,African,European, Asian,Straight, Gay,you-name-it friends growing up in the Cleveland suburbs. During those wonderful days, I would have never questioned any of these characters because I was one of them….why is it so hard for me to believe now?

After my revelation,I pushed off my facade of sophistication and finally joined in on the paths that each one of the main characters had to take, both in the now and in the past, to reach the truth of wholeness. The journey was wonderful,healing and exciting... aided by elders of both families.

This is a story of two African souls and the paths that they must take to remain as they have always been.The journey is never taken alone, nor is the path made for just one...All that love and surround you in this life, will forever be by your side.Sadly, not always in the form you would like, but the will play the role that they are destined to play, keeping the life circle formed.

I loved this story..it was well thought out, the characters felt real and the author tried to teach the reader a little African history.I appreciated that the religion/beliefs were part of the journey and not the reason for the story. I cared about the main characters, Tunde and Oni, and could relate to their families. I highly recommend it for a lazy afternoon…..

I like reading about my city and places I can relate. The story itself was very interesting and great depth in the characters. I didn't care for the number of spelling errors and how the words ran together in each chapter heading.

I just finished with my FIRST read-through of this inspiring book. I know Jason says (I feel comfortable calling the author by his first name because after after reading, I kinda consider him a friend) to go through the book chapter by chapter, but it is written with such a fun, engaging, personal voice that I couldn't stop! My book has a ton of dog-ears that I marked while reading to take a more in-depth look at those topics in my following read-thoughs. I'm looking forward to getting down to business & taking full advantage of the downloadable content provided for each chapter and topic.

This book is for the everyday Etsian that doesn't have any real professional business experience. In Art School, they teach you all the basics of creating art, but no real-life skills to market, sell, and make a living from the art that you create. I've been looking for a practical resource that teaches the basics of business (financial, marketing, writing a business model) but that relates directly to owning a crafty business. The author takes some pretty complicated business topics & breaks them down into bite-sized nuggets that are super easy to digest!

I've been (trying) to sell on Etsy for about 3 years on-and-off. I've done... okay, but not nearly as well as I'd hope to do. I'm not ready to give up & this book has given me a kick in the butt to take some of the tips & tricks and apply them to my business to help it grow.

Highly Recommended From a Business Coach

This book is essential if you want your Etsy shop to thrive. I love it and as a business coach for mompreneurs I will forever recommend this book to all starting businesses. It is a rare find and not filled with fluff like a lot of business books. The author is an actual CPA too so he knows what he's talking about when it comes to taxes. No more guessing on that. Thank goodness.

Good for serious etsy businessmen, but not for occasional etsy users

I am a new seller on etsy and after seeing all of the good reviews of this book, I decided to buy it.

Etsy-preneurship is definitely helpful, but I feel like it skimmed many topics (understandable to some extent, there are whole books written on marketing alone). I also did not find the "motivational" talk useful - writing down the idea behind your business, where you are going with it, etc. I would prefer more practical tips, which come towards the end of the book. In addition, the downloadable spreadsheets were something I can definitely live without, but others might like this feature.

That being said, if you are looking for an easy into to accounting/bookkeeping for etsy, this is a great book for you. In layman's terms Mr. Malinak describes the details of tax laws and other things one needs to know. This book is geared towards people trying to make a living on etsy, so I would NOT recommend it for people like me who have a full-time job and dabble on etsy in their free time.

We conceived the idea for this book when we met at the Toronto Annual Quality Conference. We decided then to write a book about Dr. Deming's message. The book was to be simple to read yet introduce his philosophy in a completely accurate way. We planned to use copious illustrations to make the ideas clearer.

The purpose was to make the message easy to understand. We visualized an executive, flying home after a busy day, who wanted to use the time to study a new theory without undue strain.

Would Dr. Deming like the idea? We began to work on a manuscript and laid out the first chapter with an outline. This we gave to Dr. Deming. He sent this material back, edited and with a letter: "Your idea of a book is exciting. Please continue to work on it, and get it out."

Dr. Deming not only encouraged us but actively reviewed the manuscript and added his ideas. We believe this book represents the most simple, up-to-date, and accurate presentation of his philosophy.

This book is an ideal introduction to the Deming Management Theory. Its organization follows the four-day seminar made famous by Dr. Deming. Over the course of writing the book, Dr. Deming changed the order of presentation and of emphasis. In an early draft we included a table showing the order of a presentation he made only a week before. He wrote on this table, "We have to rethink this." Subsequently he adopted the format we now follow in this book. We like to think that we have had some influence on his presentation.

The book is an ideal study tool. Undergraduate and graduate courses of Management, Organizational Development, and Quality will benefit by using this book. The material of the seminar is presented in 13 chapters - an ideal content for a semester course. The list of questions at the end of the book is useful for studying and exploring the subject matter in depth.

While this book makes a useful text for university courses, it also fills a need as a study tool for in-house training. With appropriate changes in presentation, an instructor can use this book to train all levels of management and workers. The presentation avoids as much as possible the need for any technical knowledge. The authors are working on an instructional guide for in-house training.

Those who have attended Dr. Deming's seminars in the past will find the book to be a refresher of what they experienced. It may even clarify a point that was obscure at the time of the seminar.

For those who have never attended Dr. DemingIs seminar, this book gives the flavor of such an experience. To make people feel the forces at work during the seminar, we use three voices - first is Dr. Deming, who usually introduces the topic. Where we feel that we can contribute to understanding, the authors act as the second voice. An imaginary seminar participant is voice number three. The authors have much experience with the seminars, having acted often as facilitators for Dr. Deming. During this time we met many executives and managers who came to learn, impatient to get on with it but willing to listen. We have observed that changes in the seminar participant take place over time. The lesson of the beads is a particular point of change.

The epilogue was added to help people to continue to study the application of this philosophy. "There is no substitute for knowledge," said Dr. Deming. The best way to effect a transformation is with the help of a master. The authors recognize that there will be those who cannot find a master yet wish to continue studying the ideas. We give some advice that we hope will help these readers in their quest.

For a long time Dr. Deming kept saying that to manage in a competitive world requires Profound Knowledge. It was only in the last few years that he defined what he meant by Profound Knowledge. This book incorporates his most recent thinking on this important topic.

Why did we choose this format? We chose to use a nontraditional format because it is our theory that people learn in different ways. Some people are visual and can learn best when they see pictures. Others are more verbal and prefer to listen to lectures.

Traditional English text is one dimensional. A page really consists of a long line of words. (When read in one direction - left to right - this page is actually a 10-foot line of words.) Research suggests that the human brain converts information like a holograph, in three dimensions. For that reason, TVs, movies, and exhibits are popular ways of learning. Therefore, we have created this book specifically for those who prefer visual learning.

We chose to present the Four-Day Seminars in the landscape (wide page) format. Dr. Deming reviewed, corrected, and added to this manuscript. He liked the landscape format and hoped that it would appeal to the reader as well. Managing to achieve quality, by its very nature, requires the ability to see relationships. We have attempted to cross-reference the relationship between ideas whenever possible.

This book is the compilation of many of Dr. Deming's lectures. In attending many of these lectures, we observed his never-ending improvement - he constantly clarified his message and its delivery.

Dr. Deming's message to management is simple: The prevailing system of management is ruining us. The prevailing system focuses on short-term thinking, ranking, merit systems, management by results, quotas, and MBO's. The authors hope that by bringing Dr. Deming's message in this visual format we will help managers gain a better understanding of their jobs.

Every system, such as this book, must have an aim. Our aim is to present the Deming Seminar in a simple, enjoyable way that will give the reader understanding and desire to continue studying Dr. Deming's philosophy.

Ideal introduction to Deming's approach to management

One of few books about Deming actually endorsed by Deming himself - "It is a pleasure to commend this book to anyone for easy reading of the principles of management..." (Foreword). A step-by-step, practical introduction to the basics of Deming's management philosophy, far easier to read than Deming's own books, but not attempting to reach the depth of the system of profound knowledge outlined in "The New Economics." Of particular use to managers and students in understanding Deming, and to educators in preparing several famous demonstrations, including the Red Bead Experiment and the Funnel Experiment, with ample illustrations. This is not a lecture, but a self-paced "fun" substitute for "the real thing" (Deming's four-day seminars). Highly recommended.

Authors take the reader through a typical four
day Deming seminar. They lead a reader thru a
seminar through the eyes of an executive and the
authors add their comments. Portions of Deming's
seminar are legendary and the authors make you
believe you're there for the marble test. Deming
had approved this book and one of the authors had been
a facilitator for a number of Deming led seminars.

If you want an easy introduction to statistical control,
this is the book for you!

This book is unique. It has a format that shows f three levels of the Deming philosophy. It deliniates the viewpoint of the man who led those amazing seminars, It brings the subject to earth with a narrative, and it supplies the wonder of a first-time participant. This is the book I give my students when they ask what Dr Deming was like.

Well written quality book here

Well written book. It outlines several aspects of the issues plaguing the Afrikans throughout the planet. I really like the part that breaks down acidic foods in comparison to alkaline foods. This will make a great stocking stuffer for my brother this year.

I have been researching, traveling, and teaching, throughout Afraka, and it's diaspora, for over 30 years, and never come across such a comprehensive book. A must read for all serious minded Afrakans!!!!

Il a travaillé aux Usines Simca et est rentré dans son pays au moment de l'Indépendance, en 1958. En désaccord avec le régime, il se fixa définitivement au Sénégal où Il est mort en 1980.

I am bilingual and have greatly enjoyed this wonderful and captivating, autobiography of the social education of a young boy in Guinee. The author gives considerable understanding to the reader of the customs of Guinee and of the responsibilties of a young boy in that country. The whole book is enthralling and definitely worth reading to understand the African continent.

This is the daily life of all African boys in rural area

It is amazing how Camara Laye gave an accurate account of the day to day life of all young African boys in this book. Although not from his native Guinee (Conakry), could relate to scenes, stories as if it occured in my own life each time I came into contact with the rural area of my native D. R. of the Congo (either by visiting or from my classmates accounts of their lives in the countryside. Moreover, it recaptures the two cultures standing side by side, the Western and the traditional African as lived and experienced by African boys. The family structure, going to school, playing in the farmes, visits to the city, etc... This is a very powerful testimony of the uniqueness and common shared experiences in the vast and multicolor Africa.

The original version of this book is very insightful and worth the read if you are interested in francophone culture. However, be warned that this version is NOT the original text. It is only excerpts from the actual text. I made the mistake of purchasing this version instead of the real copy and ended with the wrong copy in class. Don't make the same mistake that I did.
