About the Author

Leslie Hamilton is Associate Lecturer at Leeds Beckett University (formerly Leeds Metropolitan University) and holds an MSc in Economics from the University of Hull. He has taught International Business Environment and the European Union for more than thirty years. Previously, at Leeds Business School, Hamilton was responsible for developing and leading a large module on the Global Business Context. He has taught in France, Germany, Hong Kong, Russia, and Spain. Hamilton worked for two years in the Netherlands researching the economic and social implications of EU policies towards the regions, and examining issues around migration. His other publications cover a variety of topics including the EU, international business, and the business environment.

Philip Webster is Associate Lecturer at Leeds Beckett University (formerly Leeds Metropolitan University). Webster was Director for Undergraduate Studies at Leeds Business School and Principal Lecturer in Business Strategy and International Business. He graduated from the University of Leeds with an MA in Economic Development and worked in financial services and the computing industry before moving into education. Philip has taught International Business Environment, Business Strategy and Business Ethics, and Corporate Social Responsibility for more than thirty years. He has taught mainly in the UK but also in India, Sabah, and Hong Kong and has also worked and lived in Malaysia.

About the Author

Dr. Wesley Duewel has given himself to the cause of missions for more than 70 years.  Following ministry in India for nearly 25 years, he served as president of OMS International and is now President Emeritus. Dr. Duewel has a deep love for the Word of God. He has read the entire Bible through nearly 200 times. People around the world have appreciated his biblical insight with more than two million copies of his books in print in over 50 languages. Continuing his active life-long ministry  at 96, he teaches a senior adult Sunday School class and enjoys sharing his testimony to God’s faithfulness.  He carries a deep concern for the unevangelized millions and a constant emphasis upon prayer as the key to revival.

A must read!!!

I had never heard of this book until Doc. Billye Brim mentioned it on a Christian program I was watching and I am glad she did. If you want to be inspired to pray for our nation, then you must get this book! It covers a lot of revivals in places that, until I read this book, did not know had had revivals. By the time you get to the end if you do not feel like hitting your knees and praying for our ailing nation, then you need to get saved!

Revival Fire

I would recommend this book to everyone. It is so good to learn of past revivals in our world. It makes you hopeful that revival will come again to America. It is happening in other countries, and God is no respecter of persons. I pray that we will see revival come soon and spread all across the United States of American as well as all the world.

A book full of fun activities easy to use in the classroom. Photocopiable, so it saves a lot of time! At the same time, it gives you great ideas, so you adapt activities to your needs. It also has a few pages where you can make your own bingo games for vocab, grammar, etc. I recommend it.

Peggy Landers Rao writes on Japanese design and architecture. The coauthor of Japanese Accents in Western Interiors, she lives in Armonk, New York.

Len Brackett, who served a long apprenticeship in traditional architecture in Kyoto, has been building Japanese houses in the U.S. for 30 years. He lives in Nevada City, California.

Aya Brackett, Len Brackett's daughter, is a photographer and a photo editor at Dwell magazine.

Chapter One Design A deceptively simple cottage is tucked into the backyard of a home in California. Sheltered by towering trees, it is notable for two reasons. Although built in the 21st century, it exemplifies classic Japanese techniques and proportions refined over hundreds of years. Yet it also incorporates contemporary technologies and technical innovations for maximum comfort and energy efficiency. On entering the cottage, one's first sensation is the delicate fragrance of the cedar. Since the wood is unsealed, its fresh scent will last for decades. The finely planed surfaces invite touching, much like fine furniture. Visitors run their hands over the various woods – Port Orford cedar, sugar pine, Western red cedar, English walnut and American chestnut – and exclaim at their glass-like quality. The building is a small, private joy, giving no hint of its existence to passers-by on the street. Why and how was it built?

This book explains its construction – or more precisely, its evolution. The aim of this book is to demonstrate that Japan’s extraordinary architectural tradition can be a realistic choice in the modern world by presenting that process in detail, supplemented with examples from other Japanese-style houses built in the United States.

This is the book for you. There is also another one, Traditional Japanese Architecture: An Exploration of Elements and Forms" by Mira Locher which is an excellent companion book. These books delve into the actual building of a home the "Japanese" way, from choosing woods to joints, to mats to tea rooms to.... infinity and beyond! Everything you need to know about Japanese home architecture is covered or so it seems... (I say that because I'm not finished with either but am using them side by side). Excellent material. What else can I say.

Excellent reference, a much needed addition to the field

Building the Japanese House Today fills a void that has frustrated me for several years. It is difficult enough to find english language books on traditional Japanese architecture, much less those that have practical application in today's society. This book is a case study of one building project.

If this book has a flaw, it is that it reads too much like an advertisement for East Wind, Inc., the timber framing company whose work is featured in the book. That said, there is enough technical and philosophical discussion to make this an excellent companion volume to, say, Heino Engel's Measure and Construction of the Japanese House.

This book is no DIY manual, but there is more than enough information to make this book a valuable addition to the library of an armchair architect or timber framing student.

Great Selection of Recipes But Format Needs Consistency

Nice size recipe book. Easy to hold or prop up while gathering ingredients. Clear black print on white pages. Great selection of sample recipes; BUT, biggest issue is no index and no way to locate recipes by ingredients. Recipes are inconsistent, sometimes telling you recipes are quantities for 5 quart Mason jars (one for each day of the week), some tell you to use a smaller pint size jar, some just say Mason jar, and some give ingredients which obviously are for one jar yet end of recipe stays to divided evenly among jars (i.e., divided 1/4 C of chicken????) . Recipes also suggest a particular dressing. Sometimes the ingredients are given along with the recipes, other times no idea where to find them. Would be a great book if more consistent in instructions, and definitely needs at least the name of the salad index.

Great Little Cookbook

I picked this cookbook up free and was happy to see lots of great ideas! I look forward to trying several recipes for easy lunches. My only complaint is that I wished there were more pictures of the recipes in the jars. The instructions are very clear on how to layer the jars, but I always like a visual to go by. Also, there were a few minor errors here and there, which is understandable! We're all human and make mistakes. If pictures were added of each recipe I'd be happy to give another star!

But: there are to many places where it doesn't tell you how many jars to use. Also on at least one recipe (fresh fruit) calls for dressing first but no indication of what that might be. Not knowing how many jars is a real pickle.
