Very well written

Who do we really focus on when it comes to Christmas time? Usually I focus on what I can do for others with gifts and many people run themselves ragged to accomplish this feat. Is this really what Christmas has become to all of us? I love how true worship of our Lord is what we put into it. We can only worship God fully when we submit to Him fully and trust Him and give back to the needy and less fortunate. This past Christmas at times I became angry hearing people talk about all they were going to buy for their kids and other loved ones. How they could not wait to get to the store for all the deals on Thanksgiving Day!? What has become of us as followers of Christ? These are words you hear now from believers and non-believers. Stressed to the limits. Not enough time in the day it seems before the big day comes right? As I was reading this article it really puts things in perspective of how we have for the most part let things get out of hand.
The story of the king who saw the girl working in the field and made himself like her a worker so that he would have a better chance to land her love was great! Jesus has done this for sure. He made Himself as the bible says of no reputation to show us how to love and live life and serve people. However Jesus did not stop there. He healed the lame and sick and raised the dead. It has been said that nowhere in the bible will you ever find that anyone died in the presence of our Lord. His compassion was and is hard for us to really fully grasp. The thumb example I really enjoyed also. How in Apollo 13 Tom Hanks was sitting there in his back yard looking up at the moon and could cover it with the thumb. Well I have covered up the real meaning of Christmas up and that is Christ with my problems or stresses. Usually bringing most of them on myself and by not focusing on a truly miraculous birth. What have we put in front of Jesus on His birthday celebration? Mostly just things! The Angels are watching us what kind of report are they giving to God on our behalf? I want God to be able to say to me when I am called home. Well done thy good and faithful servant. I also desire for my little girls to always know that sure Santa is fun and wonderful but the true purpose and meaning is what God did for us by sending a willingly obedient servant who was still God to save us from our sinfulness and condemnation.

Great book! As I was reading this I forgot that it was five sermons! Ha! I got lost there for a second! I want to talk about a lot of this and none of it is the same so I will start off with Christ Back into Christmas. YES! Oh boy do we have a holiday that is stealing and blinding the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (2Cor 4:4) We have this magic man that is making his list and checking it twice and the holiday is become something that is far from celebrating our Savior coming to make the sacrifice that saves us from our sin. We are living in times with people raising their children in confusion not knowing themselves what is going on, and Christmas is the holiday that is sold to them on T.V. with the family get together and food, fun, presents and not the Presence of the Savior. How blessed are the feet that bring the Good News right?! The feet that understand and worship the Living God on the day we celebrate His coming! What is Worship?

Someone or something? We see worship in big stadiums in the US. Hundreds of thousands all with their hands high and voices of praise to their favorite teams and players. Some with their war paint on their face with hands high in the air! Wonder if that person worships the Lord in church on Sunday like that too? The worship that goes on in the world today is not like the people in the Bible in the old days when Moses came down off the mountain, but this sébomai is much richer and they are so many gods to worship! The god of sports, god of success, god of T.V., god of life, god of electricity. We have these little black electric boxes called television that we have sitting in the corner of our homes on an alter and we sit around and sébomai for hours and hours, and when we leave from there we have the even smaller magic boxes that we carry on us and we have the world at our fingertips! Ha!

As for the Angels that are here on earth we must know that the God of this universe that can whistle for the fly that is in the remotest part of the rivers can use an angel to do mighty works without any human having a clue what’s happened! I have written down the book Celestial Hierarchy and am excited to look in to reading it. I was fascinated with angels and the spirit world for many years until I realized that when you dig around places like that you play with things that you should not. The spirit world consist of good and evil and that evil has been around since they fell from the sky, and have been around man since the beginning and its best to stay prayed up and in the word of God daily! I don’t know how people live without God and the Word! But then again yes I do! I was the walking dead for 28 years too! Man how blessed can I be? Why me God? oh yeah I know why! Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost!!!

This Was a great read and hit a couple points that i thought were interesting. One thing that I thought that was interesting and was excited to read was referenced in Mathew 6:19-20 in regards to money but in-particular attention to the Words of Jesus him self (KJV V21) " For where your treasure is,there will be your heart be also." I feel just reading that short bit into the book and seeing that, Was very impressive for myself and adding that to the plot of the book (Christmas) is even better. It seems that Christmas has turn into just another holiday people look at as a burden for the reason of the money they feel they have to spend and a couple days off work. For this to be directed to Christ in the book and bringing the focus back to where is should be was great. Great words "Where is our hearts truly in the time of Christmas if we look at the bank accounts and look what is spent after necessities we will see".
Another great part in the book that i thought was a great read was the point of we must know God to worship God!. I strongly agree with this point and commend the author Tim White for putting this in the book. Its seems if around Christmas that we see a change in people and a lot come through the church doors but the retention of the ones we see at christmas are low if at all through out the rest of the year. if the ones that came into the house of the lord at Christmas new what they where worshiping the retention rate would be in 100% in my opinion. over all I rate this book with 5 starts and was a great read.

One of the definitions of idiomatic is 'conforming to the usual manner of expression in a language.' An idiom is an expression whose meaning goes beyond the usual grammatical rules of a language. When speaking a foreign language, it separates the second year language student from the native speaker. Even a fluent speaker, who has full command of the vocabulary and grammatical rules, will sound wrong unless they master the idiomatic flow of the language. The best way to assimilate the innate feel of a language is through conversation with native speakers.

Since Python is a written language, you need to develop this feeling of the language by reading code written by experts in the language. Generally, you won't find it in the book. But Writing Idiomatic Python is an exceptional book. It will show you how to write python like a 'native'.

I purchased the PDF from the author's website in 2013. It was a 'travel guide' of sorts, while reading the experts' code available at pypi.python.org. It was invaluable in pointing out the 'sights' not to be missed. I have recommended it to several colleagues, and came to Amazon today to purchase a copy for the office library. The book does have a few shortcomings, and I would have given it 3.5 or 4 stars except for sanctimonious, moronic review by Ridgely.

Ridgely, you're just wrong, about everything! Frankly, I'm tired of seeing programmers try to justify their lack of competence by saying 'program efficiency is unnecessary or even bad.' It is especially irritating when the "premature optimization" quote is used out of context.

Marie Émile Maurice Leblanc est un écrivain français né le 11 décembre 1864[1], à Rouen, et mort le 6 novembre 1941, à Perpignan. Auteur de nombreux romans policiers et d’aventures, il est le créateur du célèbre personnage d’Arsène Lupin, le gentleman-cambrioleur. On peut visiter la maison de Maurice Leblanc, à Étretat, dans la Seine-Maritime. L’aiguille d’Étretat forme d’ailleurs l’un des décors du roman L'Aiguille creuse. Biographie : Maurice Leblanc est le deuxième enfant d'Émile Leblanc, armateur de trente-quatre ans, et de Mathilde Blanche, née Brohy, âgée de vingt et un ans. Il eut pour sœur cadette la cantatrice Georgette Leblanc, qui fut l'interprète de Maurice Maeterlinck et sa compagne de 1895 à 1918. A great "detective" story

Because I have family in France I enjoy reading Arsene Lupin, the fictional French second storey man and dashing jewel thief.
Maurice Leblanc's novels are a literary precursor to Simenon's Maigret (in the sparing
vocabulary and use of language). Certainly whoever dreamed up the Pink Panther had read Leblanc the night before. ML even has a clumsy detective who never quite gets his man. He was an admirer of Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, who is featured in a couple of Lupin stories. Despite their age, Leblanc's books are still very popular, in print and widely sold in french bookstores.
If you REALLY like Lupin, Amazon sells only a few of the novels for Kindle, but they are almost all downloadable free from Gutenberg.

I don't recall what I paid for this. I'm sure it was very reasonable, and it arrived quickly.

This is some kind of reprint done in U.S., not France. Many words not properly separated. They run together.

Arsene Lupin, the anti-Sherlock Holmes

Excellent, but remember it is in French. I had just read one of the Arsene Lupin books in English and found this French addition of another book. I have not had so much fun reading anything in years.

Arsene Lupin is from roughly the same time as Sherlock Holmes, maybe just slightly later, as cars are often involved in the stories. He is a gentleman burglar who only robs the rich and usually those who have something they do not deserve and did not earn.

The stories are outrageous and loads of fun

Joseph Prince is a new voice for the truth of GOD's grace.

If you are a Christian who has struggled with the seeming 2 faces of GOD (merciful and loving v/s angry and vengeful) get ahold of a Joseph Prince book - ANY of his books.

Even though I grew up in a very loving Christian home, with many family members in ministry, this man is the first person in my life to explain GOD in a way that rings true with the GOD I have always known in my heart to exist. His biblical based explainations of Christ and HIS finished work, HIS payment for our debt, is life changing.

Get ANY of his books. Read them. Reread them. Give them away. WHAT A BLESSING. What a change to KNOW God.

Joseph Prince is an awesome Bible teacher.

I found Pastor Prince about 3 years ago and his anointed preaching and books have changed me to the core. No matter what you have done or whatever sins you have committed he will teach you that God doesn't see the sins of those who believe in His Son our Lord Jesus Christ. Your life will radically change because Pastor Prince is a teacher of Grace and the New Testament with scripture to back up everything he teaches. If you are hurting and feeling guilty, let God Bless you today and everyday with the knowledge that He loves you no matter what sins you have committed. Get ready for your core to be changed. May the Grace of our Lord be with you all!!!

If you want a simple way to an easier life, read this. Cease negative, self-condeming speak and chose words that are uplifting to you and those around you. Ever notice any correlation between what you say and what happens...as odd as it sounds, you are pretty-much bringing it on yourself. Harness the habit to speak life and light, vs. darkness; once your proclivity to be negative resets to the positive, you will see an immedite upward spiral in your perceived and actual wellbeing.

Energy Experiments Really Work

Several months ago I heard an advertisement for this book while listening to Hay House Radio. My immediate response was, "I need that book!" Being the book junkie that I am though, it isn't (currently) in my budget to buy every book that sounds interesting to me. So I looked it up at the library. No copies. Drat!

Several weeks later, I spontaneously found myself browsing the Hay House site and came up on their blogger community. That, I now realize, was miracle #1. This community allows bloggers to receive copies of certain books for free in exchange for a review posted to the blogger's website. I signed up for the program and received the book just a few days later.

If you're into spirituality, the power of intention, quantum physics, or anything along those lines, you would love this book. It's absolutely perfect for the person who has done extended reading on the topics (me!) but can't manage to move beyond the feeling of being stuck. Sure you may come up on a little proof of the Universe working in your favor now and then, but it's soon forgotten and sucked into the void of feeling like you have no power over your life.

This book provided me with the necessary guidance I needed to truly know that my thoughts have power through 9 cut and dry exercises. The best part is, Ms. Pam Grout is writes in a language that is accessible, humorous and the very opposite of boring. The lessons are concise, to the point, and best of all - offer NO ROOM FOR QUESTIONING. At the end of each experiment you KNOW that God heard your plea.

When it all boils down to it, what these experiments aim to do is solidify our faith. You either believe or you don't. You can't be wishy washy and that's where most of us get stuck. You also can't send mixed signals... Like, "I really want to lose weight, but I also really want to have 10 pieces of chocolate cake today." You have to be honest with yourself about what you really want. That's the other place where we get stuck. We don't truly know what we want.

Through practicing the experiments in this book, you can begin to hone in on what it is you're truly asking for. As Grout states, begin with simple things first. Some things take longer than others. Don't expect to become a millionaire over night. Also, keep your eyes and intuition open. You have to recognize that your question and desires have been answered. Sometimes the answers don't come the way you wanted, or expected. Most important of all though, is don't waiver in your belief. Most spiritual traditions teach this critical element and now it's backed up by science. The observer creates and changes the observed. It's true.

Finally, just to prove to you that I'm not just writing this for naught, I will share two stories about thoughts/things I manifested while going through the experiments in this book. The first one comes in the form of a Needak rebounder (a mini trampoline). I've wanted one for several years, and have had a cheap one in the past, that only lasted me about two months. I had only been reading E-Squared for a couple of hours when suddenly the word "rebounder" popped into my mind. A few minutes later I was on Craigslist where, lo and behold, someone was selling two Needak rebounders for half of their original price. I have NEVER seen a Needak on Craigslist in all the years I've been looking for one.

I now own the rebounder. And, just to add to the delight of the story, it's worth noting that the person I bought it from - the complete and total Craigslist stranger - was also very much into miracles, Wayne Dyer and other things along this course. She even had the words, "I am entitled to miracles" written on her forearm. There's no denying God in this equation.

The second example is a little more subtle. I happened to drop my camera right on it's lens in the middle of my son's birthday party. I had experienced trouble with the lens before and tried everything I could to fix it. I couldn't. I was sure that this was it for my poor little camera, which I actually use for one of my jobs. Drat again! A little later in the day, one of the chapters was guiding me to manifest something specific, immediately my mind told me what I wanted, "a camera!"

A few minutes later I found myself on YouTube looking up instructions on how to fix my camera. Even though I had already given up on it. I pretty much thought I was about to take it apart and really ruin it. Instead I came up on a simple tutorial that said to slap the camera on your palm and gently guide the lens out. Can you believe this worked? Suddenly the lens that was absolutely stuck and would not move a millimeter was working just fine. I had a camera again. Sure, it wasn't a new camera, but I gave the Universe 48 hours to give me a camera and I had one within 30 minutes. I accepted it with gratitude.

Please don't think that the only thing you can manifest are material objects. These examples are important because we like to be able to see things physically. But we can also use this book to ask for guidance and to help manifest peace and love in our hearts - that's where the real power lies. Like I said before, it's really about cultivating and maintaining faith. So yeah, read this book. I got it for free, but if I knew then what I know now, I would have gladly paid for it. "Experiment" format is unique and helpful for practicing principles

I'm no stranger to the "woo-woo, new-agey" ideas in this book, and I'm pretty open to these ideas to begin with, but I particularly like the way the book is structured in "experiment" form, to give you a clear focus. I put "experiment" in quotes, because I notice in these reviews that some scientifically-minded people get annoyed that these are not experiments in the strict scientific sense. Some people take things too literally.

A couple of the experiments had outcomes that were quite amazing. A few had no discernible outcome, or at least, no outcome that can't just be chalked up to random coincidence. Specifically, here were my outcomes:

#1 The Dude Abides: I asked for my gift. 3 events happened that could fit the description, but they were not totally amazing. I received a message from a relative I was hoping to hear from, I received a shipment of a Christmas gift for my son; this gift was not estimated to arrive for Christmas, not until mid-January, but it arrived Dec 23rd, also I received a caring note from someone I barely know - it was like a reminder that I matter to people I'm not even much aware of.

#2 The Volkswagon Jetta: This outcome was the most amazing. I didn't even think I would do it, because it was Christmas and I couldn't foresee much probability of seeing green cars or yellow butterflies. But I half-heartedly did it anyway. On Christmas Day (at night), we did go visit family, but it was dark. I was thinking the chances were very low that I would see any green cars. But on the way home, a car changed lanes in front of me. He changed slowly, to the point it sort of annoyed me, which caused me to look hard at the car. It was green. The next day, I was near the end of the 24 hours, but took my daughter to a friend's house. I was thinking there was not much chance I would see many green cars, other than the one from the night before, but it was like green cars, tractors, and trucks rained down on me. I saw 14 green cars, 2 John Deere tractors and 3 large green trucks (recycling trucks, lawn care, etc.) in just that short drive. Pretty bizarre, really.

Next was the yellow butterflies. Again, didn't think my chances were good, since I was mostly going to be home post-Christmas. But I thought, "What the heck. Something might surprise me." With just two hours left before the 24 hours would end, I took some donations to Goodwill. While in line, I thought about the butterfly experiment again and thought, "Well, unless I see a butterfly on something here at the donation bay, I'm probably not going to see one by 3:00pm." When I pulled up to the donation bay, the dumpster container had a handful of child's stickers stuck all over it randomly. Right there in front of me was a tiny yellow butterfly sticker! It was pretty great! As I was leaving the Goodwill, I accidentally turned left where I meant to turn right, then impulsively decided to go into a card store nearby to look for a magazine. Again I thought about the butterflies. I said to myself, "There might even be something with a yellow butterfly on it here, like a suncatcher or something. If I see something, I'm going to buy it as a reminder of this event." What do you think was right in the window of the store as I walked up? A suncatcher with a yellow butterfly on it! I bought it and it's hanging right beside me right now!

#3 Alby Einstein: For this experiment, I made the rods with the wire hangers. They did "work" exactly as described in the book. When I thought about a terrible event of my life (a death, for example), they pointed in close to my body. When I thought about a happy event (a trip I went on), they swung out wide. Even when I just pasted a beaming grin on my face, they swung out in response. It was pretty cool!

#4 Abracadabra: For this experiment, I was asking that my friend, who lives out of state, would contact me and we would arrange to get together. She did not contact me within the 48 hours. Later, though, I learned that at this time, her mother had suffered a life-threatening health scare. My friend was able to save her life. Her mother was not expected to live or recover properly, but she did. My friend called this her "Christmas miracle." This is obviously not an answer to my particular prayer, but I believe it illustrates that positive energy can have positive effects, even if not the effects we expect.

#5 Dear Abby: I did not get any discernible response to my question. I did hear the name of someone in a waiting room, which was tangentially related to my question, but clearly this can be called a simple coincidence. It did happen that I gave impromptu advice to someone else, so it is possible that I was a link to somebody else's needed advice, but I can't claim anything amazing happened with this experiment.

#6 Superhero: I have the most disagreement with this particular chapter. The author's understanding of her father's "ugly baby" comment is illogical and bizarre to me. I know a lot of people, including my kids, my nephews/nieces, myself - who had off-hand remarks like this said about them - "What a huge, fat little pudge!" "That baby looks like a wrinkled-up prune!" or whatever. It didn't make them grow up fat or prune-like. Also, Dr. Emoto's water experiments have been discredited according to my research. In one sense, yes, I do believe it matters how you talk to people, animals and even plants. Kind energy is kind energy. On the other hand, I don't think a stray remark about an ugly baby is going to manifest ugliness for the next two decades of life, kwim? Also, I'm firmly in the "science" camp when it comes to health, illness and disease. I did not do the "beans" experiment, though I might. I have an indoor garden set-up, so I could and might.

#7 Jenny Craig: I didn't do this experiment for two reasons: one, I already agree with the overall concept; and two, I don't have any weight or figure problems.

#8 101 Dalmatians: For this experiment, I wanted to hear from a certain friend, who would ask me to meet her for lunch. (See a theme here, lol!) I also showered her with blessings. I have yet to know if she experienced any particular blessings, but she did not ask me to meet her for lunch. She did send me a short FB message very late in the evening on the day this experiment was set to "expire". So - I guess that's something.

#9 Loaves and Fishes: I did not do this experiment, but I agree with the principle.

If there's a weakness inherent in the book, it's probably the short-term "deadlines" for each experiment. Time, after all, is a human, artificial construct; what does "48 hours" even mean to the Infinite? Time constraints can be handy for feeling that the experiment "worked," but it can also promote discouragement, I think. I'm not convinced God frequently works with 2-day time frames. Also, the time frames might promote more self-centered prayers. As I said, in one experiment, I believe I may have given someone the advice that *they* were needing, even if I did not get my own answer in the time frame. Ideally, we would all see ourselves as a part of this giant web, this network of energy. Sometimes the blessings may be our own and may be tangible things like money or tickets for a show. But we can also be blessed by providing a link to help someone else realize their prayers.

I wish this book was endless, it inspired me so much!

Quick, Easy Read. Each chapter is less than a ten minute read, actually each one is an experiment you can apply. I have never wanted a book to keep going more than I did this book. Pam Grout's sense of humor fits mine, I loved all her stories, testimonials, and examples. I finally found in print a way to express how I feel and think. I am grateful to be reminded that I don't have to earn access or wear myself to the bone to have access to all that exists energetically in this universe, and neither do you! Great way to spend a Sunday morning, quietly by myself. I was so excited, I text both my girls and had them buy it this morning as well. Thanks Pam Grout . . . wonderful book.

All the short stories for adult readers

Here are collected all of Matute's shorter fiction pieces, some of them very short, that seem to have been written with adults in mind. There is at least one other collection that gathered those aimed at children ("Todos mis cuentos", Contemporanea, 2011). All these re-printed in "Puerta de la luna" were previously issued in smaller collections. A list:

Probably the best known of these are the "Historias de Artamila" and "Algunos muchachos". Readers not yet familiar with Matute's penetrating and enchanting work might want to start with "Artamila". Her stories are a poignant but unsentimental monument to the village Spain that was the way most people visualized the country until sixty years ago or so. An unsentimental monument to childhood, as well.

Each word is chosen very carefully, with full awareness of cultural resonance, and in many cases, impressionism and psycho-realism are more important than plot. Nonetheless, these stories are not recondite and are useful for intermediate students of the Spanish language who have decided to focus on Iberia. They cultivate a literary sensibility that is unfortunately becoming rarer in our world.

The volume includes a number of short non-fiction pieces as well, about 160 pp total. These are in the nature of essays, personal memories and viewpoint, all more or less relating topically to her fiction. All were collected in book form in the early 1960's. Included as well are several pages of plates and photoreproductions of her work as it appeared when it was in Spanish periodicals.

In this Destino edition, the binding is of unusually high quality, with a very fine typeface, easily legible for those who remember these stories from long ago. There is another printing available, in Austral; I think this one is to be preferred.
