Well written book. It outlines several aspects of the issues plaguing the Afrikans throughout the planet. I really like the part that breaks down acidic foods in comparison to alkaline foods. This will make a great stocking stuffer for my brother this year.

I am bilingual and have greatly enjoyed this wonderful and captivating, autobiography of the social education of a young boy in Guinee. The author gives considerable understanding to the reader of the customs of Guinee and of the responsibilties of a young boy in that country. The whole book is enthralling and definitely worth reading to understand the African continent.

This is the daily life of all African boys in rural area

It is amazing how Camara Laye gave an accurate account of the day to day life of all young African boys in this book. Although not from his native Guinee (Conakry), could relate to scenes, stories as if it occured in my own life each time I came into contact with the rural area of my native D. R. of the Congo (either by visiting or from my classmates accounts of their lives in the countryside. Moreover, it recaptures the two cultures standing side by side, the Western and the traditional African as lived and experienced by African boys. The family structure, going to school, playing in the farmes, visits to the city, etc... This is a very powerful testimony of the uniqueness and common shared experiences in the vast and multicolor Africa.

The original version of this book is very insightful and worth the read if you are interested in francophone culture. However, be warned that this version is NOT the original text. It is only excerpts from the actual text. I made the mistake of purchasing this version instead of the real copy and ended with the wrong copy in class. Don't make the same mistake that I did.

About the Author
Nancy J. Adler is a Professor of Organizational Behavior and International Management at McGill University's Faculty of Management in Montreal, Canada. She received her B.A. in economics, M.B.A. and Ph.D. in management from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Adler conducts research and consults on global leadership, cross-cultural management, and women as global managers and leaders. She has authored over 100 articles, produced the film "A Portable Life," and published the books "International Dimensions of Organizational Behavior," "Women in Management Worldwide," "Competitive Frontiers: Women Managers in a Global Economy," and "From Boston to Beijing: Managing with a Worldview." Dr. Adler consults to private corporations and government organizations on projects in Asia, Africa, Europe, North and South America, and the Middle East. She received McGill University's first Distinguished Teaching Award in Management and is one of only a few professors to receive it a second time. She was elected to both the Fellows of the Academy of International Business and the Academy of Management Fellows, as well as being inducted into the Royal Society of Canada.

Allison Gundersen received her A.B. from Cornell University and her M.A. in Intercultural Relations from Lesley University. She has extensive experience managing and consulting in information technology and investment banking in Asia and North America, having been based both in Tokyo and New York City. Her global management work has focused on diverse teams, global responsibilities, and expatriation. Allison is currently conducting research on global leadership, international management, and cross-cultural teams as a part of the Department of Organizational Behavior at Case Western Reserve University's Weatherhead School of Management (repeatedly rated as the #1 organizational behavior department in the world by the "Financial Times"), where she is pursuing her doctoral degree.

This book served me well - interesting concepts - aced the course

I can't say exactly that I love this book, I mean it was for grad school, not my entertainment. But it served me well in my course and I learned the information needed to get an A, as well as be well versed in organizational management. I am hoping this knowledge helps me as I move up in my career.

This was a good book to learn a little about Intercultural Communication. I wish that there were more examples in the book, or that it went into greater details. Some of the concepts were confusing as well, but overall it was enlightening.

Guide to Avoiding Cultural Blunders!

Frankly, this is the best Management book that I have read! It is indispensable especially if you have anything to do with international management or if you are going overseas on business/personal reasons. It helps you understand the various cultures around the world and will definitely help you avoid the cultural blunders in other countries. Get it! I have rented this book but I will buy one for myself as a guide to international cultures. Very well written! Ms. Adler is a true genius to take such an extraordinarily complex topic as culture and then similify it in such a clear, lucid manner! The author is a genius! I hope I can meet her in person one day and pick her brains! My professor at UT Dallas, Prof. Habte Woldu, is also such a wonderful teacher! He is the perfect professor to teach this course on International Management and this is the best book for this course! Thank you Ms. Adler!

Really the ONLY worthwhile RPG treatment of Deities.

The Primal Order, by Peter Adkison, was the first product from gaming company Wizards of the Coast, now best-known for their collectible card game "Magic: The Gathering"; at that time, WotC was a just-starting roleplaying game company. The Primal Order was designed to eliminate two major flaws in the then-current treatment of deities in roleplaying games; either said deities were treated as all-powerful beings (leading to a great deal of difficulty if two different gods wanted different things, AND eliminating the high-heroic possibility of direct conflict between gods and mortals, cf. Conan, Greek and Norse myth, etc.), or they were basically ordinary characters with really really really high statistics (making it hard to differentiate between a god and a buff mortal).

The Primal Order changed this by introducing Primal Energy, a form of power usable ONLY by the gods and giving them certain advantages. The mechanics of The Primal Order ("TPO") are simple, direct, and efficient, the powers involved well-thought out, and other sections, dealing with godly politics, plane/dimension interactions, and even PC deities, are all well-written and interesting, with few flaws in either presentation or consistency -- a rarity in RPG publishing.

An additional plus to TPO is that it was designed as a "capsystem" -- a roleplaying supplement that works with ANY ESTABLISHED RPG SYSTEM. This means that to use TPO you do NOT have to give up your old system, or convert your old stuff to TPO's mechanics. TPO gives conversion rules in the back of the book for roughly 20 different game systems, all very simple and easily used. (earlier editions of the book contain conversions for Palladium and AD&D; later ones had those removed at the request/demand of the respective copyright holders).

Overall, a useful and well-written addition to any RPGers' library.

giving the facts that the author has discovered in an entertaining and easy to read manner

Violence, corruption, incompetence, intimidation, cronyism, lies, cover ups and back door politics are just some of what this book uncovers in a little southwest Louisiana town. While it shines a magnifying lens on Jennings, La. be sure that this type of thing goes on in towns small and large all over the country. The book is well researched and well presented, giving the facts that the author has discovered in an entertaining and easy to read manner.

I could give this book a 10 out of 10! Loved it.. makes you think twice about trusting people in Jennings.. I'm too scared to walk down the road anymore, but shines light on these poor innocent women who deserve justice! Great work Ethan!

The sad fact is that this is not a movie

This book has opened my eyes. I have been naive up to this point, corruption and abuse of power are still alive and thriving in 2015. As I read this book I couldn't help but think, how is this happening in this day and age? And to realize that the people who were linked to these eight, defenseless, troubled victims still hold power in law enforcement as well as political leaders is appalling. Ethan has done an outstanding job investigating and his book delivers powerful, appalling, shocking twist and turns that Hollywood would envy. The sad fact is that this is not a movie, this really happened, and the people responsible are still out there free and in charge. The case has once again gotten the attention that it desperately needs in order to finally find the murder, (murders). I am watching carefully as I am sure many are now to see what happens next.
