Tony Atkins is Emeritus Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Reading and Visiting Professor at Imperial College. He has authored over 150 journal articles and several books, including The Science & Engineering of Cutting (Elsevier, 2009). He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.


Marcel Escudier is Emeritus Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Liverpool. He has written many journal articles and a book, including The Essence of Engineering Fluid Mechanics (Prentice Hall, 1998). He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Used it on my ME PE

Bought it to use on the Mechanical Engineer's Professional Exam - ME PE. I actually used it once on the exam. But I like it so much that it will be a handy reference on my desk. Kind of like the Mark's Handbook... but smaller and lighter.... something you will actually be willing to pick up! It has not just definitions, but equations and diagrams to "define" the term.

Great Value, Up to Date, Web Aspect Just Fabulous

It's Oxford, so you'd expect them to keep the web piece up to date, and they do! For under $20 US you get not only a wealth of Engineering definitions and schematics (over 10,000 including schematics in this 500 page gem), but also all the key ME RATIOS that underlie all those rules of thumb that otherwise require differential equations! Between this book and the web links (which are very current and kept intact), I know of no other resource that can get you the key forumlas and ratios as fast, including any of the many Wikis.

I work in Robotic circuits, but we also get into a lot of kinematics and dynamics as well as ME (even though I'm an EE). This reference is NOT some dusty reprint from 1920-- the terms are complete and current for the Mathcad/ Autodesk age. I don't mean to be derogatory, but honestly, information this complete and current would be $200 plus from Springer! Great value, highly recommended.

My best Oxford dictionary.

This dictionary contains inside its pages some mechanical concept used in the mechanical engineering. Also shows definitions over equipment and mechinery used in the field of mechanical engineering since systems, fluid mechanics, statistical, automotive components, engines, air pollution, machining processes, energy and nuclear power in relationship to mechanical engineering carrer.

About the Author

Vishram S. Pandit is a technical lead in the Signal/Power Integrity Engineering team at Intel Corporation. He works on developing power delivery designs for high-speed interfaces. His focus areas include high-speed system power delivery, on-chip power delivery, and Signal/ Power Integrity co-design. Prior to Intel he worked at Hughes Network Systems on Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), power integrity, and signal integrity technologies. He has received a B.E. (Instrumentation) from College of Engineering, Pune, India, an M.S. (Electrical Engineering) from University of Utah, USA, and an Advanced Certificate for Post-Master’s Study (Computer Science) from Johns Hopkins University, USA. He is a senior member of IEEE and a member of the CPMT Technical Committee on Electrical Design, Modeling and Simulation; and he serves as a technical program committee member for DesignCon. He was a recipient of the International Engineering Consortium’s paper awards for DesignCon 2008 and DesignCon 2009.

 

Woong Hwan Ryu is currently a Signal/Power Integrity Engineering Manager at Intel Corporation. He has been responsible for pre-silicon signal integrity and power integrity analysis for high speed interfaces. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Dr. Ryu holds an IEEE Senior Member status; he serves as a reviewer for several IEEE journals; and he serves as a technical program committee member and organizing committee member for DesignCon. He was a recipient of the International Engineering Consortium’s paper awards for DesignCon 2006 and DesignCon 2008. Dr. Ryu has authored and co-authored more than 80 technical publications in premier journals and international conferences, and holds three issued patents and has one patent pending.

 

Myoung Joon Choi is a technical lead in the Signal/Power Integrity Engineering team at Intel Corporation. He works on developing methodologies for high-speed interface simulation and analysis. His focus areas include high-speed system SI-PI co-simulation, on-chip signal and power integrity, and computational analysis of entire high-speed systems. Dr. Choi has received a Ph.D. and an M.S. from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, IL, USA, and a BS from Korea University, Seoul, Korea. Power Integrity is becoming increasingly important in today’s high-speed digital I/O systems. The cover of this book gives a high-level summary of its system impact. It shows an electronic system with a Printed Circut Board (PCB), a daughter card, and their layer stackup. A driver chip is mounted on the PCB and a receiver chip is mounted on the daughter card. The expanded view of the power grid of the driver chip is also shown. The receiver jitter impact is due to Power Delivery (PD) to signal coupling, and there are different coupling mechanisms. Self impedance response of the PDN at the driver chip shows a resonance in the mid-frequency range. The PD to signal coupling response at the driver chip follows the PDN self impedance response. The jitter at the receiver follows a similar signature at those frequencies when the transmission line effect is negligible. The PD to signal coupling at the package to PCB interface increases as the frequency goes higher. The channel response shows resonances at high frequencies, due to impedance discontinuities. The power to signal coupling noise can get amplified due to the channel effects and resonances. This, in turn, gets translated into jitter at the receiver at high frequencies. Referencing scheme, such as dual referencing, also causes the PD to signal coupling.

Intended audience for this book is Signal Integrity (SI) and Power Integrity (PI) Engineers (On-chip, package, and PCB designers). It can also be used by graduate students who want to pursue careers in these fields. Overall discussion level is beginner to intermediate; however, some advanced topics are also discussed. There may be different designers working on specific components, such as on-chip or package or PCB. However, this book presents power integrity design techniques along with power-to-signal coupling mechanisms at various stages in the system, such as chip level coupling and interconnect level coupling. This will give the component SI or PI engineers a perspective of system level impact of power integrity, and enable them to proactively design the system to avoid possible problem areas and also to identify the root-cause, in case of any system problems.

Chapter 1, “Introduction,” describes digital electronic systems and gives a high-level overview of the PDN and signal network. It describes signal and power integrity effects on system performance and highlights power noise to signal coupling mechanisms. Finally, it addresses the need for concurrent SI/PI design methodology.

Chapter 2, “I/O Interfaces,” describes basic Input Output interfaces. The currents in power node generate noise that is basis of power integrity effects for I/O interfaces. This chapter addresses details of single-ended and differential drivers and receivers. Single-ended and differential interfaces produce different current profiles in the PDN, and their dependency on the bit pattern is also different. The PDN current flows are demonstrated with corresponding noise.

Chapter 3, “Electromagnetic Effects,” discusses the electromagnetic (EM) theory and how it is important in signal integrity, power integrity and ElectroMagnetic Interference (EMI) analysis. It begins with basic Maxwell’s equations, and addresses transmission line theory and interconnect network parameters (Z, Y, S). It also describes Linear Time Invariant (LTI) systems and their properties.

Chapter 4, “System Interconnects,” addresses the entire path for power and signal propagation, including the chip, package, and PCB. It gives an overview of the PCB technology and different package types. In the PDN section it describes PCB PDN components (DC/DC converter, PCB capacitors, PCB planes, vias, and so forth), package PDN, and on-chip PDN components (intentional/unintentional capacitors, and power-grid). In the signal network section, it describes PCB signal propagation with microstrip, stripline, and coupled line. It also addresses the package and on-chip signal networks. Then, it states the coupling mechanism from the PDN to signal network. Finally, it addresses modeling tools for the PDN and signal networks.

Chapter 5, “Frequency Domain Analysis,” begins with Fourier transform and its properties. It lists the key frequency domain design parameters for signal integrity and power integrity applications. It then addresses frequency domain PDN design with Z11 impedance target. It utilizes chip, package, and PCB co-design approach for the PDN design. Some important frequency domain concepts in the PDN design, such as voltage transfer function, SSO in frequency domain, and power to signal coupling, are illustrated. The next section describes the frequency domain signal network analysis and its correlation. A case study for “crosstalk amplification by resonance” is discussed in detail. The signal network analysis is performed with the PDN and on-chip parameters (on-die termination, pad capacitor, and so on) taken into account. Differential signaling parameters in frequency domain are also presented.

Chapter 6, “Time Domain Analysis,” begins with describing the necessary components for the time domain simulations. It addresses various kinds of buffer models used in signal integrity and power integrity analysis. Next, it describes the time domain PDN specifications, and simulation flow to achieve the specifications. Different examples of single ended drivers and differential drivers are presented for AC noise analysis. Next, the concept of chip level driver noise coupling on the signal is discussed. It shows examples of the jitter analysis due to the PDN noise, for single ended and differential interfaces.

Chapter 7, “Signal/Power Integrity Interactions,” is devoted to unintended interactions between power/ground and signals, which has become an important consideration for optimizing high-bandwidth I/O signaling scheme. Power noise coupling can be amplified through channel resonance. It describes the power noise amplification mechanism that is due to a combination of three factors: SSO generation, power to signal coupling, and signal channel resonance. Then two case studies are demonstrated: DDR2-800 control bus resonance problem and DDR2667 Vref bus noise issue. Next, it describes the referencing/stitching/and decoupling effects for single ended and differential interfaces.

Chapter 9, “Measurement Techniques,” covers the frequency domain and time domain measurement techniques for validating signal/power integrity, in high-speed I/O signaling. The theory and some applications of the enhanced 2-port VNA technique for low impedance power delivery network characterization are discussed in the first part of this chapter. It also describes the on-chip interconnect and pad capacitance characterization techniques. In addition, it presents S-parameter measurement-based extraction methods to obtain the high-frequency SPICE model, with microwave network analysis and parametric optimization. Next, it describes the time domain characterization techniques. It includes Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) measurement, PDN noise measurement, SSO coupling measurement, and jitter measurement.

This is such an encouraging audiobook and so easy to listen to that I finished it within a couple days of downloading it. Kay Warren narrates herself and comes across like a very good friend who empathises with you all the way through. She also helps you sort out your problems and doesn't just tell you to pretend that bad things aren't happening in your life. She has experienced a lot of pain and fear herself so is speaking from personal experience. She is very honest about her fears which really made me warm to her throughout this audio. My favourite chapters are the ones about Jesus being a man of joy, legalism and grace, and about looking after yourself by making your life simpler and taking time for yourself.

I would recommend this audio to every woman as there is so much encouragement here that we all need everyday. Although I must state that it definitely isn't just for people who are struggling and need encouraging. I haven't listened to any other audiobooks by this author before, but I would definitely listen to more after this excellent recording. Thought Provoking Discussion About Joy

Choose Joy by Kay Warren is a book I wasn't sure I would enjoy because I am not a naturally happy, outgoing person and I thought the book would be written by an outgoing woman telling everyone that they should be joyful just like her. However what I discovered as I started listening was that Kay was very similar to me and had encountered more trials than I probably ever will but had chosen to be joyful despite her circumstances.

I loved the chapter focusing on how Jesus was a joyful person because images of Jesus are normally either very timid, emotionless portrayals or images of pain on the day he died. Also the focus on personalities being an excuse for not being joyful was a common opinion that Kay effectively debunked.

This book is written for women and there are a few references to women but all the principles are just as applicable to men. As a man, I found it extremely useful and the fact that being joyful is a choice is something that I intend to practise in the future.

The narration at first I found a bit difficult because Kay has a very strong accent but the further I got into the book the more I got used to it and found it to be quite good. The added advantage of the author, Kay Warren, reading the book is that she knows the tone, emotion and expression that she intended the book to have, making it flow smoothly.

This book was a very interesting and helpful book that I intend to put into practise in my own life to become more joyful despite my circumstances. It is essential reading for people going through trials or just generally lacking in joy.

A book written for women that every man should read!

This is a book written for women that every man should read. Although Kay Warren wrote this book as an encouragement to women, I think that her studied revelations about how God interacts with us personally on a daily basis are extremely valuable to men and women alike.

I often imagine the author of audio books through the voice of the narrator and in most cases; you can imagine the author through a good narrator but you really don't know if the author actually sounds anything like the narrator. In this case, Kay Warren narrates her own book so we really do get a feeling that we are sitting with the author. She does a great job in the process and I hope that she is an encouragement to other authors to narrate their own books.

It is obvious from this audio book that the author has a strong and dependent relationship with God. A common question by those who do not have a personal relationship with God is "Why would this tragedy happen to me, or to that innocent person." I have attempted to answer that question for several bloggers with very little success. We, as believers have but a tiny understanding of the mind of God and those without a faith in God have little or no understanding of the how and why of God's actions.

Kay does an excellent job explaining how she believes God works in our lives both in the good times and the bad. I appreciated the quote that she used that if we ask "Why me?" in the bad times, we should equally ask the same question when something good happens in our lives.

I was also struck by her admission about a missed opportunity with a neighbor in distress as it reminded me of a business client who was reaching out to me for the peace (from God) that he saw in me. I was too busy to stop and talk and when I went to see him again in six months, he had already passed away. I live with the memory of a missed opportunity but believe that God ultimately determines who else may have had that conversation with this man that I missed. Both Kay's experience and mine reinforce my determination to listen to God's direction when He asks me to have that conversation.

Everyone feels joy in the peaks of life - graduation, engagements, finding a job, having a baby, or being declared cancer-free. But what about in the valleys, when everything is going absolutely wrong. Can you find joy then?

In CHOOSE JOY Kay Warren shares how to find soul-satisfying joy no matter what. Joy is deeper than happiness, lasts longer than excitement, and is more satisfying than pleasure and thrills. Joy comes from God...and it can be yours.

CHOOSE JOY is the first book I've read by Ms. Warren. It is not exactly written in an "across the kitchen table" style, this voice is more teaching than friendly. And the chapters are longer than a typical devotional. Still, if you have about twenty to thirty minutes to spend, like during a lunch hour, it will be good to read. The chapters start with an inspirational quote, go into the story form with personal stories and biblical truths, then go on to an application, prayer, and reflection questions. You will want to have a notebook handy for notes and to answer the questions, as this book isn't designed to write in.

If you are looking for a book for a small group study then CHOOSE JOY would be a good book to consider. There is a mentor's guide and other curriculum available for this book as well. This book is no longer in print, but available online for free in .pdf format, just google it. You have to have some math and physics backround to understand it, but its nothing too complicated, if you have a math or engineering degree you will grasp the easy explanations. Glad I saved $160 haha.

It's good for my study. I like it. It helps me a lot. But this book black and white. I hope the next edtion it could be color printing. So the figures could be more help. And I don't know if there is append resouces online. if there is some, It realy helps

Another Stone Brother to Swoon over

Kerrigan: bartender

We got to meet Maddox and Kerrigan in Finding Stone but now we get their real story. Maddox is constantly asking Kerrigan out but she is always turning him down because he never leaves without a girl and never with the same girl. Kerrigan eventually gives in and says yes to a date, but the day before she catches Maddox in the bathroom with another girl and this starts a string of events that can't be undone. Six months later Kerrigan starts dating Aaron, another cop, and begins an abusive relationship that we got parts of in Finding Stone.

Maddox and Kerrigan's story is not without drama, kidnappings, troubled deliveries, trips to Kentucky and lots of friends to help.

**SPOILERS**

The Stone Brothers definitely have some potent swimmers.
I love that we get to continue on with everyone else's story at the same time.
We get parts of Lani and Evan.
We get a glimpse of Missy and Brayden's story.

I can't wait to see what Evan's got up his sleeves besides all those mysterious tattoos.

what can I say about this author.......her first book is what caught my attention Finding Stone, the sexy Dr Noah Stone ❤️ (which is a must read) but also you are introduced to another two sexy brothers Maddox and Evan.......this is Maddox and Kerrigan story. You just fall in love all over again with another Stone brother (which is not hard at all to do❤️❤️)
I don't want to give to much away but WOW you are so wanting everything to work out for the two of them.
The shocks and surprises that happen you don't except really get to you (again not giving to much away) but keeps you till the end and also gets you ready for the final brother Evan
I would recommend this series to anyone who wants to fall in love with some sexy alpha male men.
This is my second best book of the year following Finding Stone ❤️❤️❤️

Love the stone brothers, loved the first book ( Noah ) and loved the second just as much. Maddox and Kerrigan are strong characters and kept me hooked from the get go. These are a group of friends any of us would love to have. Bring on the next book, Evan? Fingers crossed not to long a wait
