Outstanding in Content, Flow, and Design

Employers and educators-parents, too-are befuddled by the younger generation. So, what's new? We've had that condition for generations. Ah, but this generation is quite different than anything we've encountered in history. Today's young people seem to be wired differently, making them more difficult to understand and work with. This book will lift the fog, increasing your insight, appreciation, and skill to more effectively tap this powerful resource.
The book is divided into three sections. In the first part of the book, Chester explains Generation Why's traits, values, and perspectives-the good, the bad, and the ugly. Readers will gain valuable insights into a generation that will have a tremendous impact on the workplace and on society. This section of the book is well-constructed as a sort of stream of consciousness that will hold your attention as your knowledge expands.
The second section is filled with information and advice for employers. You'll learn about recruiting, training, managing, appearance, fun, recognition and rewards, and retention in bite-size pieces. The design of this book is quite appropriate, as it fits the way your mind must work if you are to be successful in connecting with Gen Why. And that takes us to the third section-ways to connect...and disconnect...with these unique individuals.
Now the fine points. This book delivers useful information, but it also provides interpretation. You learn and you understand after reading each section. The consistent format aids in absorbing the volume of knowledge presented in these pages. Call-outs will help scanning readers grab the high points, but don't be surprised if they pull you into the text looking for more.
Reading a book with this much detail can be overwhelming. In these cases, I find myself wishing there were some kind of a summary or explanatory index at the end of the book. Bullet points would remind me of what I'd read and help me "get" the major concepts without wading through all the text again. Chester has done us all a big favor by presenting such an executive summary, chapter by chapter, at the end of the book. You can actually start at the end of the book to get an overview, then dig into the details.
This book is designed for efficient use, as well as an effective vehicle to deliver a considerable amount of information. There are no guarantees that you'll be totally successful working with Gen Whys after absorbing this book, but you'll be miles ahead of those who haven't read it yet.
Side note: as a consultant and speaker, I address generational issues in my work. Even with my prior knowledge, I gained quite a bit from Chester's work and will confidently recommend it to all my clients who might employ these young people. Come to think of it, that would be all my clients. Employers, teachers, parents, preachers-read this book!

Highly Insightful and Very Entertaining

Books about generational differences tend towards one of two poles: informative but not particularly interesting or interesting but marginally informative. Employing Generation Why is an exception. The author's insights into the real differences between Generation Why and those older is based on years of first-hand experience and research. This is not abstract, academic theory. But Chester does a great job of making his insights engaging and entertaining. His vivd illustrations are memorable, and he clarifies murky subject matter with easy-to-understand charts and graphics. Whether you're an employer who needs help managing a new generation at work, or simply a parent or concerned adult who wants to make more sense of what kids are dealing with today, this is a book well-worth reading.

One of the top two, in my opinion

I had bariatric surgery over 20 years ago when there was no after care. I have also found out that procedure has a 70% failure rate. I had my 2nd procedure July, 2012. I was having some problems with pain (not from the surgery) last fall and spent a lot of time in bed. Instead of bingeing on food, I was bingeing on books about weight loss surgery. It was during this time that I read Practical Advice for Lifetime Maintenance After Bariatric Surgery. Of all the many books I read (if Amazon had it, I read it), this was one of two that I have taken the time to reread. All of them were valuable, even if it was to give me the repetition I needed in hearing the same thing over and over, but more specific ideas have stayed with me from this book than from the others.

I liked Pam's story about how she manages her weight loss. I needed information like that. It's nice to know she didn't have to go to extremes with exercise. I wasn't exercising at all when I read her book, but I am now walking every day - 40 minutes as she suggests. I am also tracking my calories. I am determined to be a success this time around. There will not be a 3rd surgery for me!

I also appreciate hearing how adversity happens, but it doesn't have to be the end of your weight loss. Al Roker's book helped with that as well. Support groups are great, but I feel like I have assembled my own support group in the form of all of the books I have read. I can pull them out when I feel I need a boost. I don't have to wait for the next meeting! The Kindle versions are great to be able to keep all of them with you and not to have to find a place to store them! Many of the books I have were not available in Kindle and I won't be as likely to pull those out, but it does make them easier to loan!

ETA: 9/22/15 I have now passed the 3 year mark since my 2nd surgery. I have to say that with the help of the information in Pam's book, plus support she has given me through emails, I exceeded my doctor's expectations. I lost over 170 lbs. I have been working to increase muscle for the past 9 months or so and have regained about 10 lbs. The scale that can show muscle weight shows that this increase in from muscle. I have not increased in size. Pam's experience with exercise really motivated me to get moving. I now love going to the gym. Who would have thought this would ever happen to me?!?! I am so glad I read Pam's book 3 years ago. I still use her wisdom.

A Must Read for Long Term Maintenance After WLS

This book provides a no-nonsense, honest, heartfelt account of the author's struggles with weight loss, including two weight loss surgeries. Her first surgery was years ago as one of the first kind of stomach stapling procedures, and with very little after care or behavior modification, she gained the weight back. In 1995, there was still not as much aftercare as there is presently. However, after her new gastric bypass surgery, this time she adjusted all aspects of her lifestyle (brain, physical, and spiritual) to stay committed to living the healthy way. She has maintained her weight loss now for 17 years! Her advice is practical and realistic. She clearly communicates that weight loss surgery is not the easy way out and not a miracle cure. I believe it is a great read for weight loss surgery patients, especially those that have not gotten a firm understanding that the surgery is only the first step in a lifelong requirement to remain focused and vigilant on eating right, exercising regularly, and dealing with emotional eating issues. Pam's personal stories of struggle, adversity (including Hurricane Katrina), and personal loss are very powerful to show just how it IS POSSIBLE to be a successful long term weight loss surgery patient. There are not a lot of books or other materials that focus on the real work that is required for permanent weight loss maintenance. I highly recommend this book to weight loss surgery patients and non-surgery patients that were formerly morbidly obese and are looking for guidance on long term maintenance.

Through my page [...] I met a wonderful knowledgeable woman, Pamela Harrelson. I believe her ebook will help those that are considering weight loss surgery and/or have had weight loss surgery. Check it out! I just started reading it and I'm so excited what I am reading so far! She goes over life after wls surgery and maintenance, body image and most importantly our mind set. This Catholic coloring devotional, Color The Proverbs, by Drawn To Faith is a great addition to your daily bible study even if you're not Catholic! The Proverbs on each page a beautifully surrounded by floral wreaths! The pages can be as challenging as you want them to be or done very simply! As you use this coloring devotional, it's a learning experience in the Proverbs! The pages are nice bright white which make for a beautiful backdrop for crayons, pencils or markers! I would recommend this devotional for any age person who loves to color and wants to learn more about Proverbs! I received this book as part of a preferred reviewer program for testing and a possible unbiased opinion.

Color your way through proverbs

This book is full of beautiful scripture from the book of proverbs and has all of the most well known and best inside for both coloring and reading. Each page is single sided and full of beautiful font with all different types of flower designs for you to pick from. The book itself is sturdy and well made, with thin yet thick enough paper for any medium you may choose: colored pencils, markers or even gel pens. Easily this would make a lovely gift. I just love the different choices and the uplifting messages through scripture.
