The No1 best-seller about law and order that the government lied about... Wasting Police Time is the hilarious and shocking truth about Britain's criminal justice system.
Ever wondered why you can't find a policeman when you want one?
PC David Copperfield has the answer: they're all inside the station, writing reports, photocopying, stapling and filing (when they're not getting caught up in the squabbles of Kaycee, Dwayne, her ex's ex, his sister's boyfriend's mum and that slag who sent them all a nasty message on Facebook).
Wasting Police Time is PC Copperfield's insider’s diary of life as a modern British bobby.
It's the first book to spill the beans about the way senior police officers waste our money while they fiddle the crime figures and scramble to meet bogus Home Office targets.
Copperfield is drily sarcastic and biting about his bosses, the criminals he deals with and the judges and politicians who have allowed our streets to collapse into chaos while they live in fortified houses and are driven around by armed police.
The book is so close to the mark that police minister Tony McNulty denounced it in the House of Commons as ‘more of a fiction than Dickens’ (and then had to admit he was wrong about this on the BBC’s Panorama).

Interesting Read
By James N Simpson
Stuart Davidson a uniform British police officer, for the Staffordhire Police, entertained and informed the British public (and others from around the world who also chose to read) on the red tape and bureaucratic problems of the British Police force, the frustrations from the uniforms on the frontline in their battle against crime, the misuse of police time by the public and many other things under his Coppersblog website pseudonym David Copperfield. This book is not a reprint of the best blogs but a summary of all the issues and points Stuart made on the website. It is entertaining at times, and definitely an eye opener into the behaviour of certain elements of society. You'll be shaking your head at what some people do and think the police are there for. Stuart also explains in details what is wrong with the police force and wider government organisations and court system that is supposed to fight crime, punish and deter offenders and the like. The sheer amount of paperwork is mind boggling. By the way police forces all over the world have similar bureaucratic problems preventing them spending as much time out their in the streets as the public wants them to so this book is not just for British readers.
The book isn't as entertaining as similar front line emergency service personnel books such as another insider police commentary book Cops 'n' Robbers: Hilarious True Stories of Bungling Burglars and Crafty Coppers and it certainly isn't up to the absolutely brilliant Blood, Sweat & Tea: Real-Life Adventures in an Inner-City Ambulance, but it is still a good read. All three books definitely are an eye opener!

Entertaining and funny--and a warning for the US
By Robert A. Hall
This well-written, entertaining and very funny book was written by a British Bobby, PC Stuart Davidson, formerly of the Staffordshire Police, about 'Newtown' (actually Burton upon Trent). He had to do his blog, on which this book and a sequel "Wasting More Police Time," are based, under a pen name to protect his job. Eventually the brass figured out who he was, but by then he was ready to move to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where he is a much happier cop. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PC_David_Copperfield). It was recommended by British psychiatrist Anthony Daniels (writing as Theodore Dalrymple). Daniels was carrying a copy when he ran into two plainclothes officers. They told him it was a great book. He asked how much was true. "Every word," they replied. This is policing in progressive Britain, where the Bobbies spend 90% of their time doing paperwork to CYA senior officers, filing administrative "detections," and enforcing political correctness, diversity and multiculturalism. The rest they get to spend catching bad guy who get slapped on the wrist or ever in preventing crime. It is a cautionary tale for us. Well worth your time.
